WORK IN PROGRESS
Islington Townhouse
Our latest project, forming part of a beautiful terrace set behind Islington’s Upper Street, is a Victorian 5-storey house with impressive proportions. A full restoration and modern expansion was the scope from our clients wanting a stylish, heritage home that functions like a modern house should.
Our design balances the reinstatement of heritage architectural details and a sophisticated interior scheme with a contemporary glass extension, creating a home tailored for entertaining and long-term family life.
Room are guiding the project through planning and listed building consent, the build and interior fit-out, to final styling
The centerpiece of the structural work is a new glass box extension currently in the planning phase. This addition creates a light-filled connection between the lower ground floor and the garden, modernizing the building's footprint without compromising its historic character.
Meticulous reinstatement of original style mouldings, stair furniture and joinery will feature throughout the primary floors. Widened internal openings will create a "broken-plan" layout, allowing for better sightlines and movement between formal and informal living areas.
A unified material palette with tactile and colourful accents will ensure the 5-storey verticality of the home feels cohesive and timeless.
The interiors focus on a "grown-up" aesthetic that prioritizes a timeless style, high-quality finish and functional zones for hosting.
The house will feature a generous kitchen designed for frequent entertaining, supported by a dedicated walk-in pantry for streamlined storage, a dining space that opens into the glass entension with relaxed seating. Upstairs on the first floor, a record listening space features bespoke, integrated lounge seating, a preserved front-of-house room for formal hosting, maintains the property’s original proportions and from the main hall a statement cloakroom and reinstated Victorian stair. There will be a dedicated floor for the master bedroom including a large-format en-suite bathroom and integrated dressing area, and for family life, two additional large bedrooms and a generous family bathroom, designed to be adaptable as the family grows.
